When attempting to install the MSI XML Utility on my Windows NT 4 Workstation/Server, I get the message "Unable To Locate DLL - The dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll could not be found in the specified path D:\WINNT;;D:\WINNT\System32; D:\WINNT\system;D:\WINNT;D:\WINNT\system32;D:\WINNT".

When attempting to download a route, upon answering "YES" to the question "Start Transfer Of Route", I instantaneously get the message "Route Downloaded Successfully". However, the route, in fact, did not transfer to the Dolphin.

When I log into the system to download/upload a route, I get the message "WebView 2000 Host Error - Return Message: No Routes Pending For This UserID.".

When attempting to log into the system to download/upload a route, I get the message "WebView 2000 Host Error - Return Message: Userid not found or Password incorrect.".

Administrative Module

Symptom:

When attempting to run the Administrative Module for the first time, I get the message "RDS may be improperly configured on the WebView server.  Contact MSI and report this error".

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error, especially if it appears when trying to run the Administrative Module for the first time following installation, is an incorrect registry setting.  To correct this problem, perform the following steps:
  • From the "Start" menu, choose "Run" and type in "regedit" to ensure that the following registry key exists and is correct:
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maintenance Strategies\WebView 2000\2.50\Admin Module\Settings\Server Name = "208.49.145.218")
  • If the "Server Name" is something other than "208.49.145.218", right-click on "Server Name" and choose "Modify", Then, type in the correct "Server Name" in the "value data" field and choose "OK". When finished, close the registry editor by selecting "Registry" then "Exit" from the menu at the top of the screen.

Route Transfer Module

Symptom:

When attempting to install the MSI XML Utility on my Windows NT 4 Workstation/Server, I get the message "Unable To Locate DLL - The dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll could not be found in the specified path D:\WINNT;;D:\WINNT\System32; D:\WINNT\system;D:\WINNT;D:\WINNT\system32;D:\WINNT".

Resolution:

This error appears when attempting to install the MSI XML Utility on Windows NT 4 Workstations/Servers running older versions of Internet Explorer.   Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 SP1 or higher will correct this problem.

When attempting to download a route, upon answering "YES" to the question "Start Transfer Of Route", I instantaneously get the message "Route Downloaded Successfully".  However, the route, in fact, did not transfer to the Dolphin.

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error is an improperly configured Dolphin Homebase.  To correct this problem, ensure that the dipswitches in the rear of the Homebase are in the "up" position.  Also, check the baud rate of the Homebase using the "Dolphin Homebase Configuration" utility.   The baud rate should be set to "38400".  If you do not have the "Dolphin Homebase Configuration" utility, it can be downloaded from HandHeld Products by selecting "Dolphin Operating & Development System"

Symptom:

When I log into the system to download/upload a route, I get the message "WebView 2000 Host Error - Return Message: No Routes Pending For This UserID.".

Resolution:

The cause of this error simply, is that there are no routes scheduled for the user.  Scheduling a route for the user via the Administrative Module or the WebView 2000 website will correct the problem.

Symptom:

When I log into the system to download/upload a route, I get the message "WebView 2000 Host Error - Return Message: Userid not found or Password incorrect.".

Resolution:

Typically, a user will encounter this error the first time they try to log into the system to download/upload a route following the installation of the Route Transfer Module.  To correct the problem, select "Setup" from the upper lefthand corner of the Route Transfer Module login screen.  Ensure that the field labeled "Database:" represents your facilitie's database.  If you are not sure of your facilitie's database name, check with your system administrator or call MSI technical support @ (800) 676-6565.

Dolphin

Symptom:

When attempting to download a route to the Dolphin, upon answering "YES" to the question "Get Route (Y/N)", I get the message "--ERROR-- , Route or MP file name does not follow naming convention"

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error is a missing or misspelled "ROUTES" directory on the Dolphin's "C" drive.  To correct this problem, ensure that the "ROUTES" directory exists and is correctly spelled.  The following procedure will guide you through the necessary steps:

  • Reboot the Dolphin regardless of whatever screen is currently being displayed by simultaneously depressing and then releasing the "SHIFT, ON-SCAN, and BKSP" keys.
  • Press and hold the "ON-SCAN" key while the Dolphin is rebooting itself (this bypasses the "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file).
  • At the "C:\>" prompt, type in "CD ROUTES"  to determine if the "ROUTES" directory already exists.   If it does, the Dolphin will
return with the prompt "C:\ROUTES>".  If the "ROUTES" directory does not exist or is misspelled, the message "File not found" will be displayed.
  • At the "C:\>" prompt, type "MD ROUTES" and press "ENTER".
  • Ensure that the "ROUTES" directory was created properly by typing "CD ROUTES" at the "C:\>" prompt. If the "ROUTES" directory was created properly, the Dolphin will return the prompt "C:\ROUTES>".
  • Upon rebooting the Dolphin, you should now be able to download/upload routes.

Symptom:

When attempting to perform a route after successfully downloading the route onto the Dolphin, I get the message "-Error Opening- -Pred Tmp File-"

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error is a missing or currupted temp file within the "C:\ROUTES" directory on the Dolphins flash memory drive. To correct this problem, delete any temp files residing in the "C:\ROUTES" directory.

  • At the "C:\>" prompt, enter the "ROUTES" directory by typing "CD ROUTES".
  • At the "C:\ROUTES>" prompt, type in "DEL *.TMP" and press "ENTER"
  • At the "C:\ROUTES>" prompt, type "DIR *.TMP" and press "ENTER".  If the temp files were successfully deleted, the Dolphin will return the message "DOS0002: File not found."
  • Upon rebooting the Dolphin, you should now be able to download and perform a route.

Symptom:

I inadvertently re-booted the Dolphin in the middle of an download/upload and the message "A>Sector Not Found" appeared on the Dolphin screen.  Upon re-booting the Dolphin, I get the same error message.

Resolution:

The most likely cause of this error is a  currupted "FAT (File Allocation Table"  on the Dolphins flash memory drive.  When power to the Dolphin is cycled while it is in the process of downloading/uploading a route it does not have a chance to properly close the FAT and therefore, the FAT becomes corrupted.  Call MSI to have an MSI Technical Support person guide you through the steps necessary to correct the problem.

WebView 2000 Website

Question:

What is the correct syntax for using the "search" tool on the WebView 2000 website?

Answer:

When using the "search" tool within WebView 2000, it is often necessary to use a wildcard (*) to define the list that you would like returned.  The following simple examples show the correct way to use wildcards to define your search:

Example #1:

Say, for instance, that your database contains numerous pieces of equipment including regulators and capacitors.  Now, say that you would like to define a search that would return all regulators and capacitors with an EIN ending with 105.  In the EIN search field you would enter " * 105"

Example #2:

Now, say that you would like to define a search that would return all capacitors that had an EIN beginning with the number 1 (ie Cap - 1 through Cap -199).  In the EIN search field you would enter "Cap - 1*".
