Substation Diagnostic Program
To enhance the operating and maintenance effectiveness of substation
equipment, MSI has developed a Substation Diagnostic Program (SDP), which utilizes
state-of-the-art technologies for collecting and analyzing critical substation equipment
information. this program complements our SubRounds program, and goes beyond the
standard performance and process information typically monitored, (i.e. pressures,
temperatures, voltage, current, etc.). SDP utilizes proven diagnostic technologies as part
of a periodic inspection program to evaluate critical substation equipment against the
most common failure modes experienced. SDP utilizes the following technologies to
monitor substation equipment:
- Infrared Thermography
- Portable Gas-in-Oil Analysis
- Airborne Ultrasound
- Vibration Analysis
- Visual Inspections
Once the data are collected, MSI's substation experts will review
trends and analyze each parameter, and integrate the data into a series of technical and
management reports. These reports will provide specific information and
recommendations regarding equipment condition and recommended maintenance needs, as well
as global information regarding overall substation status. Reporting will be done
through MSI's innovative Internet-based application, WebView 2000.
Using any standard Internet browser, all management and technical reports will be
available, along with all equipment data for supplemental trending, analysis, and review.
Together, SDP and SubRounds provide a complete picture of substation status and equipment condition, resulting in many benefits including:
- Increased equipment reliability
- Optimized Preventive maintenance activities
- Extended overhaul schedules & equipment life
- Reduced failures
